Fear is both an emotion, experienced by many women rights defenders on a daily basis, and one of the largest mechanisms of political control.

In 2011, the Mesoamerican Initiative for Women Human Rights Defenders (IM-Defensoras) invited Aluna's director, Clemencia Correa, to give a workshop on the experience of fear from the psychosocial perspective. This article aims to share some of the findings of this workshop.

The contributions of colleagues from the IM-Defensoras were important for developing this proposal (Orfe Castillo, Marusia López, Alda Facio).
